Is There Any Danger to Regularly Sleeping With Your Dentures?
Posted on 11/15/2018 by Dr. Hallas
Most dental health professionals recommend that you take out your dentures every night before you go to sleep. Some may wonder if this is really necessary. They may think that if they keep their dentures and gums clean through good oral hygiene habits, sleeping with the dentures is not a big deal. It can save time in the morning and can make life a little easier. That ignores the problems that can arise when you do not remove your dentures before sleeping. What Removing Dentures DoesIt is difficult to thoroughly clean dentures without removing them. The best way to make sure the dentures are clean is by soaking them in a cleaning solution overnight. It makes the most sense to do this while you sleep. You do not need the dentures in place to sleep, so it is usually the best time to do it. It can also lead to inflammation and swelling of the gums. Teeth GrindingMany people grind their teeth. Grinding the teeth can chip, crack or cause a tooth to fall out. If you have dentures and grind your teeth, it is easy to break the dentures in the same way that real teeth break. There are things people do to protect their real teeth from the dangers of grinding, but these are not as effective when using dentures. It does not take much to remove the dentures before going to sleep. The problems that occur when you regularly sleep with the dentures are not worth it. To learn more about this, contact the dental professionals at our offices....
